2013 Ferrari California Makes the Most of Handling Speciale

Raffaele De Simone is lucky man who has chance to test drive the 2013 Ferrari California. Having tried this car, he argues that this car has wonderful handling. Actually, he has tried two different cars at the same time. The first is the redesigned Ferrari California and the other is a car with Handling Speciale Package. At first, he considers that these two cars will give different driving feelings. Nevertheless, he cannot believe that the car featured with Handling Speciale Package and this new Ferrari California has similar handling.

Based on the test drive, it has been noticed that this car has better handling. It is an element which wants to point out more in this car. The automaker would like to let the automotive lovers know that the target buyers of this car are those who want to drive a comfortable and luxurious car for daily use. Even though this purpose has been stated clearly through the previous model, this new model wants to spoil the customers more. It has been reported that approximately 70 percent of the California buyers are new to Ferrari. With this new California, it is expected that much more automotive lovers can be converted into the buyers.

DOHC 32-valve V-8 is an engine placed under the hood. With direct fuel injection, this engine is able to produce 463 horsepower at 7750 rpm and 372 lb-ft of torque at 5000 rpm. For this model, the engine is mated with a seven-speed automatic transmission with manual shifting mode. To reach 60 mph, this car only requires 3.7 seconds. Meanwhile, the top speed is 194 mph.

On the other side, the weight of this car is reduced because of replacement of some elements from the previous model. For instance, the car’s steel engine cradle is replaced with one assembled from the aluminum casting and extrusion.  A new core casting process is applied. According the company, this car will be a pioneer since it is the first application for an automotive space frame. With this process, the hollow pieces will be lighter yet stronger. Overall, the total weigh that can be cut out is about 66 pounds.

In short, at least there are two advantages which can be obtained from the 2013 Ferrari California. Firstly, the handling is unquestioned. With a seven-speed dual-clutch, the driver will be able to handle the car well. Secondly, the weight is reduced which means that the performance is increased. Due to these benefits, the automotive lovers have to prepare quite a lot of budget to have it. For the base, it is offered in $201,290 while the model with Handling Speciale is sold in $208,517.
